PCGS Certified 2022 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2022 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin contains one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, carries Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2022 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin design
Heraldic artist Timothy Noad’s rendering of the Royal Arms first appeared on Royal Mint bullion in 2019, and 2022 is the fourth year of the series. The quartered shield carries the three lions of England in the first and fourth quarters, the lion rampant of Scotland in the second and the harp of Ireland in the third. It is supported by the crowned lion of England and the unicorn of Scotland, with the royal crown above.
The obverse shows Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. From 2023, Royal Arms coins carry King Charles III, so 2022 is the last date in the series struck with the Queen’s portrait.
The radial-lined background
Behind the Arms, fine radial lines spread out from the centre of the reverse. The Royal Mint added this background texture as a security feature: the lines are difficult to reproduce accurately and catch the light as the coin moves.
PCGS grading of the 2022 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin
Certification fixes the condition of this final Queen Elizabeth II Royal Arms date and protects its detailed heraldry inside a sealed holder.
Grading by PCGS means the coin has been examined by an independent third party, confirmed as genuine, given a grade from 1 to 70 on the Sheldon scale and sealed in a tamper-evident holder. The printed label records the issue and the grade, and its certification number can be looked up on the PCGS website at any time.
We supply the coin at the grade shown on its holder. Because grades differ from coin to coin and the images are illustrative, please ask before ordering if a specific grade matters to you.

Why buy a PCGS 2022 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin?
The 2022 coin closes the Queen Elizabeth II chapter of the Royal Arms series, which gives it lasting appeal for collectors of her coinage.
It also offers investors a full ounce of CGT-exempt gold in a less common design than the Britannia or Sovereign.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
