The PCGS 2024 Tudor Beast Seymour Unicorn 1oz Gold Coin design
David Lawrence’s Seymour Unicorn is among the most intricate designs in the collection, its mane and horn worked in high relief against the chain mail background.
King Charles III appears on the obverse in Martin Jennings’ portrait.
The unicorn as a royal beast
Before Henry VIII placed it on the Moat Bridge, the unicorn was not a usual royal beast in England. Believed to be untameable and the strongest of all creatures, it was chosen as a Seymour supporter, and on the coin it holds a shield bearing the Tudor rose.
PCGS grading of the 2024 Tudor Beast Seymour Unicorn 1oz Gold Coin
High-relief areas such as the horn and mane are where marks show first, so a graded Unicorn is a meaningful distinction on this design.
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is an independent grading company that authenticates coins, grades them on the 70-point Sheldon scale and seals them in a tamper-evident holder. Bullion coins are graded in Mint State (MS), and the label shows the coin’s date, denomination, grade and a unique certification number that can be checked on the PCGS website.
Grades vary between individual coins. You will receive the coin at the grade printed on its label, and product photographs are illustrative rather than of the exact coin. Contact our team if you need a particular grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2024 Tudor Beast Seymour Unicorn 1oz Gold Coin?
The certified Unicorn fills the fourth place in a graded Tudor Beasts set, alongside the Lion, Yale and Bull.
It combines that collector appeal with a full ounce of CGT-exempt gold.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
How many coins are in the Royal Tudor Beasts collection?
Ten, one for each beast on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace.
Does grading change the coin’s tax treatment?
No. It is still UK legal tender, so it stays CGT-exempt for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
