Product Description

The PCGS Certified Canadian Maple Leaf 1oz Gold Coin contains one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold from the Royal Canadian Mint and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is VAT-exempt as investment gold in the UK.

The PCGS Canadian Maple Leaf 1oz Gold Coin design

The sugar maple leaf has been on the reverse since the coin was introduced in 1979. The obverse carries the reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III depending on the date.

Radial lines and the privy mark

From 2013 the Royal Canadian Mint added fine radial lines across the background and a micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark, which make counterfeits easier to spot. Coins dated before 2013 do not have these features.

PCGS grading of the Canadian Maple Leaf 1oz Gold Coin

The Maple’s soft 24-carat surfaces mark easily, so a graded coin in a sealed holder keeps its condition protected and on record.

PCGS is an independent American grading service used worldwide. Each coin it certifies is authenticated, graded on the 70-point Sheldon scale used across the hobby, and sealed in a holder that cannot be opened without showing it. Mint State grades run from MS60 to MS70, the highest grade on the scale.

Dates vary with stock: the year of the coin you receive is shown on its PCGS label. Please contact our team if you are looking for a particular date.

Why buy a PCGS Canadian Maple Leaf 1oz Gold Coin?

The Maple Leaf is one of the most widely traded 24-carat bullion coins, and grading protects the surfaces that make pure gold vulnerable to wear.

It gives you a recognised coin with independent confirmation of its authenticity.

Why buy 1oz gold coins?

The one-ounce coin is the standard trading unit of the gold market, so its value is simple to follow against a gold price quoted per troy ounce. Premiums per gram are lower than on fractional coins, and a holding of 1oz coins can be sold one coin at a time rather than in one piece like a large bar. World bullion coins in this size are recognised by dealers everywhere, which helps when you sell.

Frequently asked questions

Why do Maple Leafs mark so easily?

They are struck in 999.9 fine gold, which is softer than the 22-carat alloy used for coins like the Krugerrand.

Can I check the PCGS certification?

Yes. The certification number on the label can be checked on the PCGS website.
