2026 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The 2026 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin is the third coin in the Royal Mint’s St George and the Dragon bullion collection, struck in one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold with King Charles III on the obverse. It is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The 2026 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin design
Sandra Deiana’s reverse marks 500 years since St George first appeared on English coins, on the George noble of 1526. Her dynamic St George battles the dragon, and the design includes an inscription taken from the George noble, together with micro-text for added security.
Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III appears on the obverse.
The George noble of 1526
The George noble was a gold coin of Henry VIII, and it was the first English coin to show St George slaying the dragon. The 2026 coin links today’s bullion collection to that coin five centuries later.

Why buy a 2026 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin?
The 2026 coin is an anniversary issue: 500 years of St George on English coinage, in a full ounce of CGT-exempt gold.
It adds micro-text security to the collection for the first time and continues the one-design-per-year series.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
