Product Description

The 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin is a Royal Mint bullion coin in one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, reviving one of the most famous coins in English history, with King Charles III on the obverse. As UK legal tender with a £100 face value, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.

The 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin design

Sandra Deiana’s 2026 reverse reimagines St Michael slaying the dragon, framed by the Latin inscription PER CRUCEM TUAM SALVA NOS CHRISTE REDEMPTOR (‘By thy Cross, save us, O Christ, our Redeemer’), taken from the medieval coins. A secure background pattern helps protect the coin against counterfeiting.

Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III appears on the obverse.

The medieval Angel

The original Angel was a gold coin introduced under Edward IV in 1465, named after its image of the Archangel Michael defeating Satan in the form of a dragon. Angels became associated with the ceremony of touching for the ‘king’s evil’, when monarchs presented them to the sick, and the coin came to be seen as a token of protection and good fortune.

Why buy a 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin?

The 2026 Angel pairs a full ounce of CGT-exempt gold with a design rooted in more than 550 years of English coinage, which makes it stand out from standard bullion.

Its historic association with protection and good fortune also makes it a meaningful gift.

Why buy 1oz gold coins?

The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
