Solomon Global is delighted to congratulate our Brand Ambassador, Sir Geoff Hurst MBE, after he received the Freedom of the City of London, recognising his outstanding contribution to English football and public life.
The honour comes during a particularly significant year for Sir Geoff, as 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of England’s historic 1966 World Cup triumph, a moment that established his place in sporting history and created a legacy that continues to resonate six decades later.

A Fitting Honour, 60 Years On

Sir Geoff received the Freedom at a ceremony at Guildhall after being nominated by Dame Susan Langley, Lady Mayor of the City of London, and Chris Hayward, Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation.
Speaking after the ceremony, Sir Geoff said:

“I feel privileged to have received the Freedom of the City of London at Guildhall. It is something that I never expected to be offered, and I regard it as a great honour.”

The Freedom of the City of London is one of the City’s oldest traditions, believed to date back to 1237. Today, it is used to recognise individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to London, public life or their respective fields.
For Sir Geoff, the recognition adds another chapter to an extraordinary story.

A Legacy That Has Lasted Generations

On 30 July 1966, Sir Geoff scored three times as England defeated West Germany 4–2 at Wembley Stadium.
Sixty years later, he remains the only footballer to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup Final for the winning side.
His achievements extend well beyond that famous afternoon.
Sir Geoff made 499 appearances for West Ham United, scoring 248 goals and helping the club win the FA Cup in 1964 and European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965. He would later move into coaching and management, including serving as assistant coach of the England national team and manager of Chelsea.
Yet perhaps the clearest indication of Sir Geoff’s legacy is that generations born long after 1966 still immediately recognise his name and achievement.
That enduring legacy is one of the reasons Solomon Global is so proud to have Sir Geoff as our Brand Ambassador.

Sir Geoff Hurst and Solomon Global

Earlier this year, Solomon Global announced its partnership with Sir Geoff as the country marked 60 years since England’s greatest footballing achievement.
The partnership was built around shared themes of heritage, preparation, longevity and legacy.
Throughout his career and life beyond football, Sir Geoff has spoken about the importance of thinking ahead and making considered financial decisions. As both a Solomon Global customer and Brand Ambassador, he has helped us explore what creating something of lasting value can mean across generations.
Sir Geoff said when our partnership was announced:

“Throughout my career, I’ve understood the value of discipline and thinking ahead, and this has aided me in my investment decisions.”

His story provides an unusually powerful example of what a genuine legacy looks like.
A single afternoon at Wembley became part of British sporting history. Six decades later, Sir Geoff continues to represent the values and memories associated with that achievement.

Celebrating an Extraordinary Year

The Freedom of the City of London is another fitting milestone during the 60th anniversary year of England’s World Cup victory.
Dame Susan Langley described Sir Geoff’s achievements as having “inspired generations of players and supporters”, while highlighting the lasting importance of both his England career and his contribution to West Ham United.
For everyone at Solomon Global, it has been a privilege to work alongside Sir Geoff during such a significant year in his life and in English sporting history.
We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Sir Geoff Hurst MBE, Freeman of the City of London, on this thoroughly deserved recognition.
Here’s to a legacy still going strong, 60 years on.
