NGC Certified 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin MS70
Product Description
The NGC Certified 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin MS70 contains one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold and has been graded MS70, the highest possible grade, by NGC. It carries King Charles III on the obverse and is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, so it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The NGC MS70 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin design
Sandra Deiana’s 2026 reverse reimagines St Michael slaying the dragon, framed by the Latin inscription PER CRUCEM TUAM SALVA NOS CHRISTE REDEMPTOR (‘By thy Cross, save us, O Christ, our Redeemer’), taken from the medieval coins. A secure background pattern helps protect the coin against counterfeiting.
The obverse carries Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III.
The medieval Angel
Edward IV introduced the gold Angel in 1465, and it took its name from the Archangel Michael shown defeating Satan as a dragon. Monarchs later handed Angels to the sick during the ceremony of touching for the ‘king’s evil’, and people kept them afterwards as charms, which is how the coin gained its reputation for protection and luck.
NGC MS70 grading of the 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) is one of the two leading independent coin grading services, alongside PCGS. It authenticates each coin, grades it on the 70-point Sheldon scale and seals it in a tamper-evident holder with a label showing the grade and a unique certification number, which can be checked on the NGC website.
MS70 is the top of the scale: the highest Mint State grade, with no post-production imperfections visible under 5x magnification. For a soft 24-carat bullion coin, which marks easily in production and handling, the highest Mint State grade is a significant distinction.

Why buy a NGC MS70 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin?
An MS70 Angel is the finest grade a coin can achieve, which may appeal to collectors seeking the highest Mint State grade for this design.
It still contains a full ounce of CGT-exempt gold, which underpins its value.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
What does MS70 mean?
MS70 is the highest Mint State grade on the 70-point scale, meaning no post-production imperfections under 5x magnification.
Why does an MS70 coin cost more than a standard Angel?
Coins graded MS70 can carry a collector premium above their underlying gold value because MS70 is the highest Mint State grade.
