The PCGS 2019 Queen’s Beast Falcon of the Plantagenets 1oz Gold Coin design
Ten heraldic beasts watched over the 1953 coronation, carved in plaster for the occasion and standing for the dynasties that met in Queen Elizabeth II. Between 2016 and 2021 the Royal Mint issued each of them as a bullion coin, all designed by Jody Clark, before closing the series with a coin showing all ten together.
The falcon was a badge of Edward IV and the House of York, often shown with a fetterlock, a type of shackle. Jody Clark’s design gives the bird a tightly worked plumage that rewards close inspection.
Reading the shield
Every beast in the series holds a shield. The shield, not just the animal, identifies the family or dynasty the beast stands for, so it is worth looking at both halves of the design.
PCGS grading of the 2019 Queen’s Beast Falcon of the Plantagenets 1oz Gold Coin
Feather detail is delicate and easily flattened by handling, so certified Falcons in top grades stand out.
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is an independent grading company that authenticates coins, grades them on the 70-point Sheldon scale and seals them in a tamper-evident holder. Bullion coins are graded in Mint State (MS), and the label shows the coin’s date, denomination, grade and a unique certification number that can be checked on the PCGS website.
We supply the coin at the grade shown on its holder. Because grades differ from coin to coin and the images are illustrative, please ask before ordering if a specific grade matters to you.

Why buy a PCGS 2019 Queen’s Beast Falcon of the Plantagenets 1oz Gold Coin?
The Falcon is one of the less common beasts in collections, which makes it a useful coin for anyone filling gaps in a set.
It carries the same ounce of CGT-exempt gold as every other 1oz coin in the series.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
