Product Description

The PCGS Certified 2023 Britannia KCIII 1oz Gold Coin contains one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold and carries King Charles III’s portrait, graded and sealed by PCGS. As UK legal tender with a £100 face value, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.

The PCGS 2023 KCIII 1oz Gold Britannia design

The Royal Mint identifies the 2023 Britannia as the first bullion coin to bear King Charles III’s official coin portrait. The Royal Mint chose its flagship Britannia to introduce Martin Jennings’ uncrowned, left-facing effigy to bullion buyers.

The reverse keeps Philip Nathan’s Britannia with the four security features introduced in 2021.

Security features on the 2023 KCIII Gold Britannia

  • Latent image: below Britannia’s gown, a trident switches to a padlock as the coin is tilted.
  • Surface animation: the background waves appear to move as the light changes.
  • Micro-text: the words DECUS ET TUTAMEN (‘an ornament and a safeguard’) run around the design.
  • Tincture lines: fine lines pick out the Union flag on Britannia’s shield.

PCGS grading of the 2023 KCIII 1oz Gold Britannia

Certification preserves a first-year King Charles III bullion coin with a confirmed grade and a protective holder.

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is an independent grading company that authenticates coins, grades them on the 70-point Sheldon scale and seals them in a tamper-evident holder. Bullion coins are graded in Mint State (MS), and the label shows the coin’s date, denomination, grade and a unique certification number that can be checked on the PCGS website.

We supply the coin at the grade shown on its holder. Because grades differ from coin to coin and the images are illustrative, please ask before ordering if a specific grade matters to you.

Why buy a PCGS 2023 KCIII 1oz Gold Britannia?

As the first King Charles III bullion Britannia, the 2023 coin marks the start of a reign on the UK’s best-known gold coin. The PCGS grade gives collectors confidence in its condition.

It keeps all the tax advantages of a gold Britannia, so it works for investors as well as collectors.

Why buy 1oz gold coins?

The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2023 Britannia the first coin with King Charles III?

It was the first bullion coin in the world to carry the King’s official coin portrait, according to the Royal Mint.

How is this different from the First Strike version?

Both are PCGS-graded 2023 King Charles III Britannias. The First Strike version also carries a PCGS designation for coins issued within the first 30 days of release.
