PCGS Certified 2023 Britannia QEII 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2023 Britannia QEII 1oz Gold Coin is a one-ounce Royal Mint coin in 999.9 fine gold bearing Queen Elizabeth II, graded and sealed by PCGS. It is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, so it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2023 QEII 1oz Gold Britannia design
2023 is the transition year of the gold Britannia. The Royal Mint began the 2023 issue with Jody Clark’s fifth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and described that version as having a limited production run, before switching to King Charles III’s portrait.
The reverse is Philip Nathan’s Britannia with the four security features used since 2021, identical on both 2023 versions. Only the obverse portrait separates them.
Two portraits, one date
Because 2023 gold Britannias exist with both monarchs, the QEII version is one half of a two-coin pair. Collectors often keep it alongside a 2023 King Charles III coin to show the change of reign on the same date.
PCGS grading of the 2023 QEII 1oz Gold Britannia
The PCGS label identifies this coin as the Queen Elizabeth II version of the 2023 Britannia, removing any doubt about which portrait you are buying.
Grading by PCGS means the coin has been examined by an independent third party, confirmed as genuine, given a grade from 1 to 70 on the Sheldon scale and sealed in a tamper-evident holder. The printed label records the issue and the grade, and its certification number can be looked up on the PCGS website at any time.
We supply the coin at the grade shown on its holder. Because grades differ from coin to coin and the images are illustrative, please ask before ordering if a specific grade matters to you.

Why buy a PCGS 2023 QEII 1oz Gold Britannia?
The certified 2023 QEII Britannia is the final gold Britannia date to bear the late Queen’s portrait, which gives it historic interest beyond its gold content.
It makes a strong pairing with the 2023 King Charles III coin, and it still offers the tax advantages of any gold Britannia.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there two 2023 Gold Britannias?
The Royal Mint struck 2023-dated coins first with Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait and then with King Charles III’s, so the same date exists with both monarchs.
How can I tell which 2023 version I have?
Look at the obverse: Queen Elizabeth II faces right, while King Charles III faces left. The PCGS label also identifies the version.
