The PCGS 2026 The Angel 1/4oz Gold Coin design
The quarter-ounce Angel carries the same Sandra Deiana design as the 1oz: St Michael slaying the dragon, with the medieval Latin inscription and a secure background pattern, on a 22mm coin.
Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III is on the obverse.
The medieval Angel
The original Angel was a gold coin introduced under Edward IV in 1465, named after its image of the Archangel Michael defeating Satan in the form of a dragon. Angels became associated with the ceremony of touching for the ‘king’s evil’, when monarchs presented them to the sick, and the coin came to be seen as a token of protection and good fortune.
PCGS grading of the 2026 The Angel 1/4oz Gold Coin
Graded fractional coins let collectors own a certified Angel at a lower cost than the one-ounce version.
PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, is a widely used independent coin-grading service. It verifies that a coin is genuine, assigns a grade on the 70-point Sheldon scale and encapsulates it in a sealed holder. Bullion coins are graded Mint State, abbreviated MS, with 70 the highest possible mark.
Grades vary between individual coins. You will receive the coin at the grade printed on its label, and product photographs are illustrative rather than of the exact coin. Contact our team if you need a particular grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2026 The Angel 1/4oz Gold Coin?
The certified quarter-ounce Angel offers the historic design and a PCGS grade at a more accessible price.
As a smaller gold coin, it also makes a special gift with a long tradition of good fortune behind it.
Why buy 1/4oz gold coins?
Quarter-ounce coins are a middle step for buyers who want more than a tenth of an ounce per coin without committing to a full ounce. They make regular purchases more manageable and give you finer control when selling, since you can release a small part of a holding. The trade-off is a higher premium per gram than larger coins, so they suit flexibility more than bulk buying.
