PCGS Certified 2023 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2023 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin holds one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, bears King Charles III’s portrait and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, so it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2023 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin design
Timothy Noad’s Royal Arms returns for a fifth year, with the lion and unicorn supporting a quartered shield for England, Scotland and Ireland beneath the royal crown, all set on a radial-lined background.
The obverse carries Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III. As a coronation-year coin, it is the first Royal Arms bullion date of the King’s reign.
Security in the design
Behind the Arms, fine radial lines spread out from the centre of the reverse. The Royal Mint added this background texture as a security feature: the lines are difficult to reproduce accurately and catch the light as the coin moves.
PCGS grading of the 2023 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin
Fine heraldic detail shows wear quickly, so a graded example preserves the crispness of the shield and supporters.
PCGS is an independent American grading service used worldwide. Each coin it certifies is authenticated, graded on the 70-point Sheldon scale used across the hobby, and sealed in a holder that cannot be opened without showing it. Mint State grades run from MS60 to MS70, the highest grade on the scale.
The grade of the coin supplied is the one stated on its PCGS label. Images are for illustration and grades may vary, so please contact our team if you would like a specific grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2023 Royal Arms 1oz Gold Coin?
The certified 2023 coin is the first King Charles III date in the Royal Arms series, in confirmed condition.
Paired with a certified 2022 Royal Arms, it shows the series across the change of reign.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
