PCGS Certified American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin holds one troy ounce of fine gold in a 22-carat alloy and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is VAT-exempt as investment gold in the UK.
The PCGS American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin design
Every American Eagle carries Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty on the obverse, taken from his 1907 double eagle: Liberty striding forward with a torch and olive branch. The reverse depends on the date. Coins from 1986 until mid-2021 carry Miley Busiek’s family of eagles; later coins carry Jennie Norris’ eagle head portrait, introduced with a revised design in 2021.
The 22-carat alloy
The Eagle is struck in 22-carat gold, alloyed with small amounts of silver and copper. That makes it harder-wearing than a 24-carat coin, and it is why the coin weighs 33.93g in total while containing exactly one troy ounce of gold.
PCGS grading of the American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin
Because the Eagle has two reverse types, the PCGS label is useful twice over: it records the date and type as well as the grade.
PCGS is an independent American grading service used worldwide. Each coin it certifies is authenticated, graded on the 70-point Sheldon scale used across the hobby, and sealed in a holder that cannot be opened without showing it. Mint State grades run from MS60 to MS70, the highest grade on the scale.
Dates vary with stock: the year of the coin you receive is shown on its PCGS label. Please contact our team if you are looking for a particular date.

Why buy a PCGS American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin?
The Eagle is the United States’ flagship gold bullion coin, issued since 1986, and a graded example gives you that coin with its authenticity and condition independently confirmed.
The tougher 22-carat alloy also means it handles storage well.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard trading unit of the gold market, so its value is simple to follow against a gold price quoted per troy ounce. Premiums per gram are lower than on fractional coins, and a holding of 1oz coins can be sold one coin at a time rather than in one piece like a large bar. World bullion coins in this size are recognised by dealers everywhere, which helps when you sell.
