PCGS Certified 2020 Queen’s Beast White Lion of Mortimer 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2020 Queen’s Beast White Lion of Mortimer 1oz Gold Coin is graded and sealed by PCGS and struck in one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold. As UK legal tender with a £100 face value, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2020 Queen’s Beast White Lion of Mortimer 1oz Gold Coin design
The White Lion of Mortimer is the eighth coin in the series. Unlike the crowned Lion of England that opened the collection in 2016, this lion is uncrowned, exactly as it appeared in Edward IV’s arms. Jody Clark shows it in profile with a shield bearing the white rose of York at the centre of a golden sun.
Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse in Jody Clark’s fifth definitive portrait, as on every coin in the series.
Two lions, two coins
The two lions in the series are easy to confuse. The 2016 Lion of England is crowned and holds the Royal Arms; the 2020 White Lion of Mortimer is uncrowned and holds the York rose-en-soleil badge. The Mortimer connection comes through Anne de Mortimer, whose line gave the House of York its claim to the throne.
PCGS grading of the 2020 Queen’s Beast White Lion of Mortimer 1oz Gold Coin
Because the series contains two lions, the label is useful in its own right: it records exactly which beast and year the holder contains, alongside the grade.
PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, is a widely used independent coin-grading service. It verifies that a coin is genuine, assigns a grade on the 70-point Sheldon scale and encapsulates it in a sealed holder. Bullion coins are graded Mint State, abbreviated MS, with 70 the highest possible mark.
The grade of the coin supplied is the one stated on its PCGS label. Images are for illustration and grades may vary, so please contact our team if you would like a specific grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2020 Queen’s Beast White Lion of Mortimer 1oz Gold Coin?
A certified White Lion of Mortimer removes any doubt about which of the two lions you are buying, in confirmed condition.
It keeps the full tax advantages of UK legal tender gold behind the collector appeal.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
