Product Description

The PCGS Certified 2025 The British Lion 1oz Gold Coin contains one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, carries the first-year British Lion design and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.

The PCGS 2025 The British Lion 1oz Gold Coin design

David Lawrence’s reverse shows the heraldic British lion seated with its paw on a shield, framed by the Latin legend LEO BRITANNICVS (‘British Lion’). Behind it, a Union Flag surface animation shifts as the coin moves, adding both visual impact and a security feature that is difficult to copy.

2025 is the first year of the range. Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III is on the obverse.

A national emblem

The lion has been a royal emblem since the 12th century, and three lions still fill two quarters of the Royal Arms. The British Lion bullion range, launched by the Royal Mint in 2025, gives this national symbol a coin of its own.

PCGS grading of the 2025 The British Lion 1oz Gold Coin

A graded first-year coin provides a clear starting point for a certified British Lion collection.

PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, is a widely used independent coin-grading service. It verifies that a coin is genuine, assigns a grade on the 70-point Sheldon scale and encapsulates it in a sealed holder. Bullion coins are graded Mint State, abbreviated MS, with 70 the highest possible mark.

The grade of the coin supplied is the one stated on its PCGS label. Images are for illustration and grades may vary, so please contact our team if you would like a specific grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2025 The British Lion 1oz Gold Coin?

The PCGS 2025 British Lion is the debut year of a Royal Mint range, in verified condition.

Its Union Flag surface animation makes it one of the more secure designs among UK commemorative bullion.

Why buy 1oz gold coins?

The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.

Frequently asked questions
