The NGC First Day of Issue 2026 Tudor Beast Seymour Panther 1oz Gold Coin design
David Lawrence’s Seymour Panther is shown incensed, flames at its mouth and ears, holding its shield on a Tudor-inspired background enhanced with surface animation. Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III appears on the obverse.
The panther is a Seymour beast, granted royal status to mark Jane Seymour’s place beside the king, and it is the design the Royal Mint used to introduce the whole collection.
The beast that opened the collection
The Seymour Panther was the beast the Royal Mint chose to launch the Royal Tudor Beasts collection, unveiled at Hampton Court Palace in 2022 with Historic Royal Palaces. It is one of Jane Seymour’s beasts, and it closes the story it began: the 2026 Seymour Panther is the tenth and final release of the bullion collection, while the Royal Dragon completes the commemorative and proof collections.
NGC certification of the 2026 Seymour Panther
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) authenticates each coin, grades it on the 70-point Sheldon scale and seals it in a tamper-evident holder. The label shows the grade and a certification number that can be checked on the NGC website.
What First Day of Issue means
First Day of Issue is an NGC designation for eligible coins purchased within one day of the mint’s first release and received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository within one week, with supporting evidence where required. It records release timing rather than condition, which is shown separately by the grade.
Who is Dan Thomas?
Dan Thomas is the King’s Assay Master at the Royal Mint, a centuries-old office that answers for the purity of the nation’s coinage. The Assay Master tests the metal content of the coins the Mint strikes before they are independently verified at the Trial of the Pyx, the annual examination of UK coinage by a jury of the Goldsmiths’ Company. A label signed by the holder of that office links the coin to the office responsible for ensuring Royal Mint coins meet required standards of weight and fineness, rather than to its designer.
The grade of the coin supplied is the one stated on its NGC label. Images are for illustration and grades may vary, so please contact our team if you would like a specific grade.

Why buy a NGC First Day of Issue 2026 Tudor Beast Seymour Panther 1oz Gold Coin?
This coin combines three things collectors look for: the beast that opened the series and closes it in bullion, a First Day of Issue designation and a hand-signed label, all on a coin from the collection’s closing year.
Behind the label it is still a full ounce of gold that is CGT-exempt for UK residents and VAT-exempt.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
