PCGS Certified 2023 Britannia KCIII First Strike 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2023 Britannia KCIII First Strike 1oz Gold Coin contains one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, carries the first King Charles III portrait on a bullion Britannia, and has been graded by PCGS with the First Strike designation. As UK legal tender with a £100 face value, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2023 KCIII First Strike 1oz Gold Britannia design
The Royal Mint identifies the 2023 Britannia as the first bullion coin to carry King Charles III’s official coin portrait, Martin Jennings’ uncrowned, left-facing effigy. The reverse keeps Philip Nathan’s Britannia with the four security features introduced in 2021: a trident-to-padlock latent image, surface animation, DECUS ET TUTAMEN micro-text and tincture lines on the shield.
What First Strike means
First Strike is a PCGS designation for coins issued within the first 30 days of the mint’s release, with PCGS deciding which submissions qualify. It records when the coin was released, not how it was struck, and it is separate from the grade shown on the label.
PCGS grading of the 2023 KCIII First Strike 1oz Gold Britannia
On a first-year coin, the First Strike label ties the coin to the opening weeks of the King’s first bullion Britannia.
PCGS is an independent American grading service used worldwide. Each coin it certifies is authenticated, graded on the 70-point Sheldon scale used across the hobby, and sealed in a holder that cannot be opened without showing it. Mint State grades run from MS60 to MS70, the highest grade on the scale.
The grade of the coin supplied is the one stated on its PCGS label. Images are for illustration and grades may vary, so please contact our team if you would like a specific grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2023 KCIII First Strike 1oz Gold Britannia?
It combines two things collectors of the King’s reign look for: the first King Charles III bullion Britannia, and a PCGS label confirming it came from the first 30 days of release.
Underneath, it is still a full ounce of CGT-exempt, VAT-exempt gold.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the standard PCGS 2023 Britannia?
Both are PCGS-graded 2023 King Charles III Britannias. This one also carries the First Strike designation for coins issued within the first 30 days of release.
Does First Strike describe the coin’s condition?
No. It records release timing. The condition is shown separately by the grade on the PCGS label.
