2027 Britannia KCIII 1/2oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The 2027 Britannia KCIII 1/2oz Gold Coin is a half-ounce Royal Mint bullion coin in 999.9 fine gold, carrying King Charles III on the obverse. As UK legal tender with a £50 face value, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The 2027 1/2oz Gold Britannia design
The half-ounce was one of the four gold Britannia sizes introduced in 1987, alongside the 1oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz. The 2027 coin keeps Philip Nathan’s design of Britannia with trident and shield, now protected by the security features added in 2021.
The obverse shows King Charles III by Martin Jennings, the portrait that first appeared on bullion when the Royal Mint placed it on the 2023 Britannia, the first bullion coin in the world to carry the King’s official coin portrait.
Security features on the 2027 1/2oz Gold Britannia
- A latent trident-to-padlock image, a nod to Britannia’s naval history and to the coin’s security.
- Surface animation that brings the sea behind Britannia to life.
- The micro-text DECUS ET TUTAMEN, the same Latin motto once lettered on the edges of British coins, meaning ‘an ornament and a safeguard’.
- Tincture lines, the heraldic shading that highlights the Union flag on the shield.

Why buy a 2027 1/2oz Gold Britannia?
The 2027 half-ounce Britannia is a well-established size with a record going back to the start of the range. It offers a lower premium per gram than smaller coins at half the cost of an ounce.
For buyers who want flexibility when selling, two half-ounce coins give more options than a single one-ounce coin.
Why buy 1/2oz gold coins?
Half-ounce coins sit between the flagship 1oz and the smaller fractions. They keep the premium per gram closer to the 1oz coin than a 1/4oz or 1/10oz would, while halving the amount you commit to each coin. For many buyers they are a practical way to build a position steadily, or to hold gold in units that are easier to sell in part later.
