2025 Final Rose Sovereign Gold Coin
Product Description
The 2025 Final Rose Sovereign Gold Coin is the last Sovereign struck in the Royal Mint’s rose-gold alloy, holding 7.32g of fine gold in 22-carat metal with King Charles III on the obverse. As UK legal tender it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
About the 2025 Sovereign
Modern Sovereigns are alloyed with copper, which gives them a warm, pinkish tone. The Royal Mint has confirmed that 2025 is the final year of that alloy, with Sovereigns returning to a yellow-gold appearance from 2026.
The reverse is Pistrucci’s St George and the dragon, and the obverse carries Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III. The coin remains 22-carat, as the Sovereign has been for more than two hundred years.
Why the colour is changing
The Royal Mint asked collectors for their view on the Sovereign’s colour and found a preference for the traditional yellow tone of older coins. From 2026 the alloy changes to produce that appearance, while keeping the 22-carat standard set out in law.

Why buy a 2025 Final Rose Sovereign Gold Coin?
The 2025 coin closes a distinct chapter: the last rose-gold Sovereign before the return to yellow gold, which gives it a clear identity among recent dates.
It is still a standard bullion Sovereign, so you pay a modest premium for that distinction rather than a collector’s price.
Why buy gold Sovereigns?
The Sovereign is one of Britain’s longest-established gold coin series and is widely recognised by bullion dealers. Its small size, under a quarter of an ounce of gold, makes it a flexible unit: you can release a little of a holding at a time rather than selling a whole ounce. As UK legal tender it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
Frequently asked questions
What makes the 2025 Sovereign the ‘final rose’?
It is the last Sovereign struck in the copper-rich alloy that gives modern coins their rose tone. From 2026 the alloy changes to a yellow-gold appearance.
Is the 2025 coin still 22-carat?
Yes. The gold content is unchanged at 7.32g; only the colour of the alloy changes from 2026.
