Product Description
The 2027 Britannia KCIII 1/4oz Gold Coin contains a quarter of a troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold and bears King Charles III’s portrait. Struck by the Royal Mint as UK legal tender with a £25 face value, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The 2027 1/4oz Gold Britannia design
When gold Britannias were launched in 1987, they were struck in 22-carat gold. In 2013 the Royal Mint moved the range to 999.9 fine gold, and in 2021 it added four security features. The 2027 quarter-ounce coin brings all of those changes together on Philip Nathan’s original Britannia design.
The obverse shows King Charles III by Martin Jennings, the portrait that first appeared on bullion when the Royal Mint placed it on the 2023 Britannia, the first bullion coin in the world to carry the King’s official coin portrait.
Security features on the 2027 1/4oz Gold Britannia
- A latent trident-to-padlock image, a nod to Britannia’s naval history and to the coin’s security.
- Surface animation that brings the sea behind Britannia to life.
- The micro-text DECUS ET TUTAMEN, the same Latin motto once lettered on the edges of British coins, meaning ‘an ornament and a safeguard’.
- Tincture lines, the heraldic shading that highlights the Union flag on the shield.

Why buy a 2027 1/4oz Gold Britannia?
The 2027 quarter-ounce Britannia is the modern form of a long-running coin: 24-carat purity, protected design and a size that works for steady buying.
It gives you more gold per coin than a tenth-ounce, at a lower premium per gram, while keeping each purchase manageable.
Why buy 1/4oz gold coins?
Quarter-ounce coins are a middle step for buyers who want more than a tenth of an ounce per coin without committing to a full ounce. They make regular purchases more manageable and give you finer control when selling, since you can release a small part of a holding. The trade-off is a higher premium per gram than larger coins, so they suit flexibility more than bulk buying.
