Britannia 1oz Gold Coin (Mixed Years – Best Value)

SKU: AU-MIX-GB-BRIT-1OZ Categories: , , ,

Product Description

The Britannia 1oz Gold Coin (Mixed Years – Best Value) gives you one troy ounce of fine gold in the Royal Mint’s flagship bullion coin, with the year chosen from available stock. Depending on the date, it carries the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III, and as UK legal tender it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.

The 1oz Gold Britannia (Mixed Years) design

Philip Nathan’s standing Britannia, created for the first gold Britannias in 1987, has appeared on every gold bullion Britannia since 2013; some earlier 22-carat years used other Britannia designs. She holds a trident and a shield bearing the Union flag, a figure that has personified Britain since Roman times.

Because this listing covers several dates, the coin you receive may show different details. Coins from 1987 to 2012 were struck in 22-carat gold; later coins are 999.9 fine. Coins dated 2021 onwards add the Royal Mint’s four security features, and 2023-dated coins may carry either monarch.

How the mixed-year Britannias can differ

  • Purity: 22-carat (1987 to 2012) or 999.9 fine gold (2013 onwards), always with one troy ounce of fine gold.
  • Portrait: Queen Elizabeth II on earlier dates; King Charles III by Martin Jennings on later ones.
  • Security features: latent image, surface animation, micro-text and tincture lines on coins dated 2021 onwards.
  • Condition: coins may show light handling marks typical of bullion, without affecting gold content.

Why buy a 1oz Gold Britannia (Mixed Years)?

This is the listing for buyers who care about the gold, not the date. You get the same one ounce of fine gold and the same legal tender status as a current-year coin, usually for a lower premium, because we can supply whichever year we hold.

It is a sensible choice for building a holding in whole ounces, for topping up an existing Britannia position, or for anyone who plans to sell back on metal value, where the year makes little difference.

Why buy 1oz gold coins?

The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose the year of my mixed-year Britannia?

The year is selected from stock, which is what keeps the premium down. If you need a particular date or monarch, please choose a dated Britannia listing or contact our team before ordering.

Do older 22-carat Britannias contain less gold?

No. A 22-carat 1oz Britannia is heavier overall (34.05g) because it contains other metals, but it holds the same one troy ounce of fine gold as a 999.9 fine coin.

Is a mixed-year gold Britannia CGT-exempt?

Yes. Every gold Britannia is UK legal tender, so gains on it are exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents, whatever the year.
