The PCGS 2020 Queen’s Beast White Horse of Hanover 1oz Gold Coin design
The Queen’s Beasts began as ten six-foot statues guarding the entrance to Westminster Abbey at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, each carrying the badge of a family in her ancestry. Jody Clark reinterpreted all ten for the Royal Mint’s bullion series, issued two coins a year between 2016 and 2021.
The White Horse is the most recent arrival among the ten. George I brought the Hanoverian steed into British royal heraldry in 1714, and Jody Clark shows it rearing above a shield of the royal arms as they were used in that period.
The newest of the ten beasts
Most of the Queen’s Beasts reach back to the Middle Ages. The White Horse of Hanover dates from the eighteenth century, which makes it the youngest line represented in the series and a useful marker of how far back the Queen’s ancestry was traced.
PCGS grading of the 2020 Queen’s Beast White Horse of Hanover 1oz Gold Coin
The horse’s smooth flank and raised legs are the areas where marks appear first, so the grade matters on this design.
PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, is a widely used independent coin-grading service. It verifies that a coin is genuine, assigns a grade on the 70-point Sheldon scale and encapsulates it in a sealed holder. Bullion coins are graded Mint State, abbreviated MS, with 70 the highest possible mark.
We supply the coin at the grade shown on its holder. Because grades differ from coin to coin and the images are illustrative, please ask before ordering if a specific grade matters to you.

Why buy a PCGS 2020 Queen’s Beast White Horse of Hanover 1oz Gold Coin?
The White Horse is the ninth coin of the series and one that collectors often add late, when completing the ten.
It offers the same ounce of CGT-exempt, VAT-exempt gold as the rest of the series.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
