PCGS Certified 2022 Britannia 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2022 Britannia 1oz Gold Coin holds one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, with Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, and comes graded and sealed by PCGS. As UK legal tender with a £100 face value, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2022 1oz Gold Britannia design
2022 was the last full year of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, and the 2022 gold Britannia was struck with her portrait throughout. The reverse carries Philip Nathan’s Britannia with the security features introduced the previous year.
The obverse shows Jody Clark’s portrait, the fifth and final effigy of the Queen used on UK coins.
Security features on the 2022 Gold Britannia
- A latent trident-to-padlock image, a nod to Britannia’s naval history and to the coin’s security.
- Surface animation that brings the sea behind Britannia to life.
- The micro-text DECUS ET TUTAMEN, the same Latin motto once lettered on the edges of British coins, meaning ‘an ornament and a safeguard’.
- Tincture lines, the heraldic shading that highlights the Union flag on the shield.
PCGS grading of the 2022 1oz Gold Britannia
A certified 2022 coin preserves a late Elizabethan Britannia in a protected holder with an independent grade.
PCGS is an independent American grading service used worldwide. Each coin it certifies is authenticated, graded on the 70-point Sheldon scale used across the hobby, and sealed in a holder that cannot be opened without showing it. Mint State grades run from MS60 to MS70, the highest grade on the scale.
We supply the coin at the grade shown on its holder. Because grades differ from coin to coin and the images are illustrative, please ask before ordering if a specific grade matters to you.

Why buy a PCGS 2022 1oz Gold Britannia?
The PCGS 2022 Britannia marks the final full year of the Queen’s reign on the UK’s flagship gold coin, which gives it lasting interest for collectors of her coinage.
It also offers investors certified, CGT-exempt gold in a format that is simple to store and verify.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
Does the 2022 Gold Britannia show Queen Elizabeth II?
Yes. All 2022-dated gold Britannias carry Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Why pay more for a certified coin?
Certification confirms authenticity and condition, protects the coin and can appeal to collectors when you sell. If you only want gold content, an uncertified Britannia is usually the lower-cost choice.
