The PCGS 2025 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin design
For the second coin in the collection, the Royal Mint reimagined a design by George Kruger Gray, created for George V’s Silver Jubilee in 1935 but never struck at the time. It shows a heavily armoured St George in the Gothic Revival style, adapted from Kruger Gray’s original.
Martin Jennings’ portrait of King Charles III is on the obverse.
A design 90 years in the making
George Kruger Gray designed many of the reverses on British coins in the 1920s and 1930s. His St George was shortlisted for the 1935 Silver Jubilee but not used, so the 2025 coin is the first time it has appeared on coinage.
PCGS grading of the 2025 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin
Grading preserves the fine Gothic Revival detail of this historic design in a protected holder.
PCGS is an independent American grading service used worldwide. Each coin it certifies is authenticated, graded on the 70-point Sheldon scale used across the hobby, and sealed in a holder that cannot be opened without showing it. Mint State grades run from MS60 to MS70, the highest grade on the scale.
Grades vary between individual coins. You will receive the coin at the grade printed on its label, and product photographs are illustrative rather than of the exact coin. Contact our team if you need a particular grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2025 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin?
The 2025 coin appeals to collectors of British coin history: a 1930s design finally brought to coinage, in certified condition.
It is the second coin in a graded St George collection and a full ounce of CGT-exempt gold.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the 2025 St George design come from?
It is a modern reimagining of George Kruger Gray’s design for George V’s 1935 Silver Jubilee, which had never appeared on a coin until 2025.
What is the Gothic Revival style?
A 19th and early 20th century style inspired by medieval art and architecture, reflected here in St George’s armour and the ornate detail.
