Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin holds one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, carries Sandra Deiana’s St Michael design and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin design
Sandra Deiana’s 2026 reverse reimagines St Michael slaying the dragon, framed by the Latin inscription PER CRUCEM TUAM SALVA NOS CHRISTE REDEMPTOR (‘By thy Cross, save us, O Christ, our Redeemer’), taken from the medieval coins. A secure background pattern helps protect the coin against counterfeiting.
King Charles III appears on the obverse in Martin Jennings’ portrait.
The medieval Angel
The original Angel was a gold coin introduced under Edward IV in 1465, named after its image of the Archangel Michael defeating Satan in the form of a dragon. Angels became associated with the ceremony of touching for the ‘king’s evil’, when monarchs presented them to the sick, and the coin came to be seen as a token of protection and good fortune.
PCGS grading of the 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin
The Angel’s detailed wings, armour and dragon reward a high grade, and the PCGS holder keeps them protected.
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is an independent grading company that authenticates coins, grades them on the 70-point Sheldon scale and seals them in a tamper-evident holder. Bullion coins are graded in Mint State (MS), and the label shows the coin’s date, denomination, grade and a unique certification number that can be checked on the PCGS website.
We supply the coin at the grade shown on its holder. Because grades differ from coin to coin and the images are illustrative, please ask before ordering if a specific grade matters to you.

Why buy a PCGS 2026 The Angel 1oz Gold Coin?
A PCGS-graded Angel combines a historic design with an independently confirmed condition.
It keeps full UK tax advantages, so it works for both collectors and investors.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
Why was the Angel thought to bring good fortune?
Angels were presented by monarchs during the ceremony of touching for the ‘king’s evil’, and the coins came to be kept as tokens of protection and healing.
How does the PCGS Angel differ from the NGC versions?
The coin is the same. It differs only in the grading service; the grade is shown on each holder’s label.
