PCGS Certified American Buffalo 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified American Buffalo 1oz Gold Coin contains one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold from the United States Mint and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is VAT-exempt as investment gold in the UK.
The PCGS American Buffalo 1oz Gold Coin design
James Earle Fraser’s Native American profile fills the obverse and his bison the reverse, the pairing first used on the US five-cent piece from 1913 to 1938. The US Mint revived it in 2006 for the American Buffalo, its first 24-carat gold bullion coin, and the design has stayed the same on every date since.
Fraser’s design
Fraser drew the obverse profile from several Native American sitters, and the bison on the reverse is traditionally said to be Black Diamond, an animal kept at a New York zoo. Because the design does not change from year to year, a graded Buffalo is valued on its gold content and grade rather than its date.
PCGS grading of the American Buffalo 1oz Gold Coin
Pure 24-carat gold marks more easily than the 22-carat alloy of the American Eagle, so a graded Buffalo gives useful assurance about its surfaces.
Grading by PCGS means the coin has been examined by an independent third party, confirmed as genuine, given a grade from 1 to 70 on the Sheldon scale and sealed in a tamper-evident holder. The printed label records the issue and the grade, and its certification number can be looked up on the PCGS website at any time.
Dates vary with stock: the year of the coin you receive is shown on its PCGS label. Please contact our team if you are looking for a particular date.

Why buy a PCGS American Buffalo 1oz Gold Coin?
It suits buyers who want America’s 24-carat bullion coin in a verified, sealed form rather than a loose coin bought purely for metal.
PCGS is the most widely recognised grading service in the United States, which helps if you ever sell into that market.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard trading unit of the gold market, so its value is simple to follow against a gold price quoted per troy ounce. Premiums per gram are lower than on fractional coins, and a holding of 1oz coins can be sold one coin at a time rather than in one piece like a large bar. World bullion coins in this size are recognised by dealers everywhere, which helps when you sell.
