PCGS Certified 2024 Lion and Eagle 1oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The PCGS Certified 2024 Lion and Eagle 1oz Gold Coin holds one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, carries the first-year bullion Lion and Eagle design and has been graded and sealed by PCGS. It is UK legal tender with a £100 face value, exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The PCGS 2024 Lion and Eagle 1oz Gold Coin design
2024 is the first year of the Lion and Eagle on Royal Mint bullion. The reverse was created for the Royal Mint by John M. Mercanti, Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 2006 to 2010 and one of the most prolific designers in US coinage history. It brings the British lion and the American bald eagle together in one composition, symbols of courage, strength and freedom shared by two long-standing allies.
King Charles III appears on the obverse in Martin Jennings’ portrait.
Two national symbols
In heraldry the lion has stood for strength and courage since medieval times and appears on the arms of English monarchs. The bald eagle became a national symbol of the United States in 1782, when Congress adopted it for the Great Seal. Mercanti’s design gives each animal its own space while uniting them in a single scene. The Royal Mint issues the coin as The British Lion and American Eagle.
PCGS grading of the 2024 Lion and Eagle 1oz Gold Coin
A graded first-year coin is the natural starting point for a certified Lion and Eagle run, and PCGS is widely recognised by collectors on both sides of the Atlantic.
PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, is a widely used independent coin-grading service. It verifies that a coin is genuine, assigns a grade on the 70-point Sheldon scale and encapsulates it in a sealed holder. Bullion coins are graded Mint State, abbreviated MS, with 70 the highest possible mark.
Grades vary between individual coins. You will receive the coin at the grade printed on its label, and product photographs are illustrative rather than of the exact coin. Contact our team if you need a particular grade.

Why buy a PCGS 2024 Lion and Eagle 1oz Gold Coin?
The PCGS 2024 Lion and Eagle is the debut bullion year of a UK and US design partnership, in verified condition.
It keeps full UK tax advantages while protecting Mercanti’s detailed engraving in a sealed holder.
Why buy 1oz gold coins?
The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.
Frequently asked questions
