2027 Britannia KCIII 1/10oz Gold Coin
Product Description
The 2027 Britannia KCIII 1/10oz Gold Coin is the Royal Mint’s tenth-ounce bullion coin, struck in 999.9 fine gold with King Charles III on the obverse. It is UK legal tender with a £10 face value, so it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-exempt as investment gold.
The 2027 1/10oz Gold Britannia design
Britannia first appeared on Roman coins in the second century AD and has featured on British coinage since the reign of Charles II. The 2027 tenth-ounce coin continues that story with Philip Nathan’s design, created for the launch of the gold bullion range in 1987.
The obverse shows King Charles III by Martin Jennings, the portrait that first appeared on bullion when the Royal Mint placed it on the 2023 Britannia, the first bullion coin in the world to carry the King’s official coin portrait.
Security features on the 2027 1/10oz Gold Britannia
- A latent trident-to-padlock image, a nod to Britannia’s naval history and to the coin’s security.
- Surface animation that brings the sea behind Britannia to life.
- The micro-text DECUS ET TUTAMEN, the same Latin motto once lettered on the edges of British coins, meaning ‘an ornament and a safeguard’.
- Tincture lines, the heraldic shading that highlights the Union flag on the shield.

Why buy a 2027 1/10oz Gold Britannia?
The 2027 tenth-ounce Britannia gives you a piece of nearly two thousand years of British coin history in a small, affordable gold coin. It is well suited to gifts that mark a 2027 birth, wedding or anniversary.
It is also the simplest way to start a regular gold habit, one coin at a time.
Why buy 1/10oz gold coins?
Tenth-ounce coins are the lowest-cost way to own a recognised gold bullion coin. They suit first-time buyers, gifts and regular small purchases, and they are the most divisible unit when you come to sell. Smaller coins carry a higher premium per gram than 1oz coins because the minting cost is spread over less gold, so they are best seen as a flexible entry point rather than the lowest-premium route to gold by weight.
Frequently asked questions
How long has Britannia appeared on coins?
Britannia first appeared on Roman coins in the second century AD and has been used on British coins since the 17th century. The gold bullion Britannia was introduced in 1987.
Is the 2027 1/10oz Gold Britannia a good gift?
Its 2027 date makes it a natural keepsake for events this year, and as a gold coin it keeps a value linked to the gold price rather than a fixed price.
