The 2026 Tudor Beast Queen’s Lion 1oz Gold Coin design

Ten heraldic beasts line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace, five representing the ancestry of Henry VIII and five that of Jane Seymour. The Royal Mint’s Royal Tudor Beasts bullion collection, designed by David Lawrence, gives each of them a coin.

David Lawrence shows the Queen’s Lion with its shield on a Tudor-inspired background, enhanced with surface animation that adds a security feature as well as depth.

The lion that stands for the queen

The Queen’s Lion is one of Jane Seymour’s beasts and the second lion in the collection, separate from the Lion of England that opened the bullion series in 2022. Where the Lion of England speaks for the crown, the Queen’s Lion uses the same ancient emblem to mark Jane’s own standing as queen.

Why buy a 2026 Tudor Beast Queen’s Lion 1oz Gold Coin?

The Queen’s Lion is one of the last designs in a ten-coin collection, so it is a coin many series collectors need to complete their set, and a natural companion to the 2022 Lion of England.

It is also a full ounce of 24-carat gold with the tax treatment of UK legal tender.

Why buy 1oz gold coins?

The one-ounce coin is the standard unit of the gold market. Because gold is priced per troy ounce, a 1oz coin’s metal value is simple to follow, and the larger size usually carries a lower premium per gram than fractional coins. Compared with a large bar, a holding of 1oz coins can still be sold a coin at a time, so you keep flexibility without paying fractional-coin premiums.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Queen’s Lion different from the Lion of England?

They are two separate beasts on the Moat Bridge with their own coins. The Lion of England opened the bullion collection in 2022; the Queen’s Lion is a 2026 release.

Is the Queen’s Lion available graded?

Yes. We also offer PCGS-graded examples in 1oz and 1/4oz for buyers who prefer a certified coin.
